Theatre for Conflict Resolution is an innovative and experiential course designed to equip therapists AND theatre artists/directors with practical skills and techniques drawn from the realm of theatre to effectively manage and resolve conflicts in various settings. Through a combination of theoretical foundations, interactive exercises, and role-playing scenarios, participants will explore how theatrical techniques can enhance communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills, leading to more constructive conflict resolution outcomes. This course encourages participants to think creatively and adaptively in their approach to conflict resolution, ultimately empowering them to facilitate meaningful and transformative experiences for their clients.

 

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to...

 

  • Understand the theoretical foundations of conflict resolution and their relevance to therapeutic and artistic practice.

  • Explore the principles of improvisation and how they can be applied to enhance communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Utilize role-playing techniques to simulate and address conflict scenarios commonly encountered in therapeutic and theatrical sessions.

  • Integrate elements of storytelling and narrative therapy to facilitate the resolution of conflicts and promote healing.

  • Apply theatrical techniques such as mirroring, status, and physicality to build rapport and manage power dynamics in counseling relationships.

  • Reflect on personal biases and assumptions that may impact the resolution of conflicts and develop strategies for addressing them.

  • Create an individualized action plan for incorporating theatrical techniques into their counseling practice to enhance conflict resolution skills.

This course combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on experiential learning to provide participants with practical tools and strategies for effectively managing conflicts and fostering positive outcomes for their clients, students and/or community. Through active participation and reflection, participants will gain confidence in their ability to navigate challenging situations and promote growth and healing in their artistic and therapeutic practice.

 

Center for Creative Arts Therapy has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7460. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Center for Creative Arts Therapy is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
