COUNSELING FOR TEENAGERS

Let's be real here. . . being a teenager can be rough!

Lucky for you, we are experts in helping teens find themselves, recognize their strengths and build helpful thinking patterns and behavioral habits through creative arts therapy.

Between the pressures of school, home, peers and planning for the unknown future, it's no wonder many teens experience feeling overwhelmed, depressed, angry, isolated, stressed, and anxious, especially throughout our recent pandemic.

Hoping to find a way for your teen to communicate and express their often difficult emotions in a safe way? Unsure how to best help your teenager through a difficult life transition such as peer pressure, divorce, bullying, loss of a loved one?

The creative arts therapies give voice to teens through expressive art materials, music, movement and role play. When words are not available for expression or communication of difficult feelings, the arts can speak instead. It is a language without words, offering a means for individualized and unique personal expression. Both the art itself and the process of creating art can provide teenagers with a non-verbal avenue to communicate, problem solve, express self and emotions, and positively cope with difficult experiences and life changes.

Let us support you and your teen through compassionately creative counseling and arts-based psychotherapy services. Contact us to schedule a consultation.

Like adults, teens go through ups and downs with their mental health. Sometimes these problems reflect different developmental stages and can be considered normal, but when symptoms begin to interfere with your child’s daily functioning, interrupting home and school, it may be beneficial to seek help.

Beginning therapy can be scary for anyone, but it can be especially confusing for teens who might not understand why they are there. Our primary concern at the Center for Creative Arts Therapy is making your teen feel safe and comfortable. We will spend the first few sessions getting to know your child and building a therapeutic relationship not only by talking but also through art, music, play, and games.

Children might not yet have the words to describe what they are going through, which can be frustrating for both you and them. For children between the ages of 13 and 18, creative arts therapy can be beneficial in helping the teens work through complex emotions. Creative arts therapy allows teens to displace “challenging” or “overwhelming” feelings onto canvases and journals and act out conflict and anxiety resolutions.

Our therapists are prepared to help your children develop an enhanced skill set to improve their self-esteem, reduce symptoms of mental illness, and learn strategies to build resilience and navigate complex challenges. Our teen therapists can provide help with anxiety, depression, stress, body image, life adjustments, ADHD and much more,

Anger
Anxiety & Stress

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Our team of child therapists collaborate with you, your child, and other people on your teen's team to get a better understanding of your teen's history and their current concerns. We will create a treatment plan specific for your child that will help them learn tools to manage their symptoms and reach their goals. By intervening early, you can improve your teen's long term mental health outcomes by helping them be more aware of their own feelings and emotions, and encouraging them to seek help when in need.

We're in-network with BCBS PPO & Cigna. We accept self-pay patients from $150 per session, depending on the therapist, and can provide out-of-network services. Please call our office with any questions at 847-477-8244.
